PORTLAND The co-founder of Rogue Ales and a pioneer in Oregon s craft beer industry has died.

Jack Joyce passed away Tuesday. He was 71.

Joyce co-founded Rogue Ales and Spirits in 1988. The Ashland-based brewery s entrepreneurial spirit and clever marketing helped grow the brand, distributing brews across the country and open pubs around the Northwest, including in Portland, Newport and San Francisco.

Jack was a daring pioneer in Oregon s craft brewing and distilling industries, said Oregon Liquor Control Commission director Steve Marks. His dream grew into one of Oregon s most successful breweries and distilleries. Thank you, Jack for taking us with you on your journey to dare, risk, and dream.

Joyce s son, Brett, said a reception in honor of his father s passing will be scheduled soon.
