PORTLAND -- A report from the Veterans Administration revealed that a Portland veteran is one of 76 people across the country who may have been harmed by an extra long wait for care at VA hospitals.
The report does not reveal the veteran's name or what happened. The Portland VA said it is not able to reveal any details about the veteran because of privacy laws.
The report comes after nationwide issues at VA hospitals. In the Portland metro area, several veteransreported long wait times for getting treatment or even doctor appointments.
At the same time, others, including Roy Decker, say they are treated well by the Portland VA.
I ve had a very, very successful story with the VA. They saved my life on many occasions. I would recommend any veteran to go through the VA, said Decker.
America promised to take care of military servicemen for life when they gave them the uniform.
Ricky Flores is one of many who believe that is happening.
I think it s doing the best it can. We ve been at war now for about 50 years. So that s a lot of veterans. And we re still at war. So that s a lot of people coming home hurt, still need care, Flores said.
