PORTLAND-- The 37th Shamrock Run happens Sunday, March 15 at Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
With some 35,000 participants expected, the event is the largest running and walking event in Oregon and the second-largest on the West Coast.
All bridges will remain open in both directions during the event, but getting around downtown Portland on Sunday morning will be very difficult.
The event is actually six different races: a 15-kilometer run, a half marathon, an 8K run, a 5K run, a 5K walk and a 1K walk/run called the Leprechaun Lap. Start times are staggered throughout the morning.
Shamrock Weekend kicks off with a two-day fitness fair expo at the Oregon Convention Center on March 13 and 14. There will be more than 70 running and fitness exhibitions, live music, demos, contests, giveaways and a kids area.
For the sixth year in a row, the Shamrock Run has sold out. Registration for the races is now closed.
