SALEM A Salem man was finally arrested after taking officers on a reckless high-speed chase at speeds over 100 mph down Interstate 5 early Thursday morning, police said.
Police first tried to pull over 35-year-old Anthony Segura (pictured) around 1:20 a.m. on the interstate near milepost 254 but he gassed it, setting off a dramatic chase, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.
Segura then exited the interstate and rocketed west on Kuebler Boulevard, trying to lose pursuing officers, Hastings said.
Segura eventually stopped near Commercial Street where he was pinned in by police. When troopers commanded him to get out of the car, Segura rolled down the window and yelled an expletive at them, Hastings said.
A trooper then shocked Segura with a Taser and took him into custody without any more trouble. Police found a loaded semi-automatic handgun stashed in the center console between the two front seats, Hastings said.
Police also found narcotic painkillers in Segura s clothing.
Segura was booked in the Marion County Jail and charged with felony attempt to elude, DUII, reckless driving, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
