UPDATE: The hawk had to be euthanized Thursday due to severe trauma to its left upper wing, which lost its blood supply, according to Audubon Society of Portland spokeswoman Deborah Sheaffer.

WEST LINN, Ore. -- West Linn police officers rescued a hawk that was hit by a semi-truck on Interstate 205 Wednesday.

Police were called at about 10 a.m. to the report that the truck had hit the bird on I-205 near the Willamette Falls viewpoint.

Officers arrived and untangled the injured raptor from the passenger view mirror, said Detective Mike Francis of the West Linn Police Department. It appeared to officers that the hawk suffered an injury to its left wing and was shaken by its brush with the semi.

The Audubon Society will attempt to treat the the bird for its injuries.
