PORTLAND -- Library users can now stream audio, movies and television shows directly to their web browsers and iOS or Android mobile devices, thanks to a new Netflix-like service used by the Multnomah County Library system.

A new platform called Hoopla lets cardholders access 125,000 digital media files on demand and for free, said Shawn Cunningham Director of Communications and Strategic Initiatives on Tuesday.

Patrons do not have to place holds or wait in a queue to access content, which is discoverable through a simple search from the library s website, Cunningham said.

Library users can access full music albums for a week and video content for up to three days.

The technology has been used in 50 other library systems including the Seattle Public Library, Cunning said.
