PORTLAND -- The dry spell in the Portland Metro area should continue through Thanksgiving, but look for big changes in the weather this weekend, according to KGW Meteorologist Nick Allard.

If you have to travel over the mountains, expect great conditions through Friday before some moisture moves in on Saturday, Allard said Wednesday.

Rain Saturday will likely be followed by mountain snow moving in Sunday. The National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement for the weekend, recommending travelers be prepared for tough driving conditions.

There was even a chance of snow in the Metro area by Monday. An air mass moving in Sunday night could lower snow levels to a few hundred feet or even near the valley floor, according to the statement.

At this point in time, it remains uncertain whether enough moisture will be available with this air mass to produce low elevation snow, it reads.
