SISTERS, Ore. (AP) -- Authorities say two people are dead in a two vehicle crash that occurred after a driver veered to avoid hitting a deer on Highway 20.

The Deschutes County Sheriff's office says a sedan and a pickup truck collided shortly before noon Saturday about one mile west of Sisters.

The office says the sedan's 23-year-old driver, Austin Jacob McNelis, and an 18-year-old passenger, Kayla Marie Basham, were killed.

A release says McNelis veered to avoid hitting a deer and lost control on the wet roadway, sliding into the path of the pickup traveling in the opposite direction.

The resulting crash killed the two victims and also left the two of the five people in the pickup with minor injuries.
