PORTLAND -- The woman killed after getting hit by a MAXtrain in Northeast Portland Thursday morning has been identified as 62-year-old Yvonne Stevenson Osredkar of Ridgefield, Wash., police said.

After she was struck by the train, Osredkar became trapped under it at the intersection of Northeast 7th Avenue and Northeast Holladay Street.

Investigators believe she stepped into the crosswalk and directly into the path of an eastbound MAX train without realizing it was coming.

Investigators have reviewed surveillance video and it appears that the woman did not hear the train coming, possibly due to heavy construction going on at a site north of the platform, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau.

Osredkar was rushed to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries, Simpson said.

The initial call to dispatchers came in about 7:36 a.m. The train was pulling into the MAX station when the collision occurred.

The incident stopped MAX traffic in both directions. The Blue, Green and Red lines were affected and shuttle buses were in place to ferry passengers between Lloyd Center/11th and Old Town/Chinatown stops, said TriMet spokeswoman Robert Altstadt.
