VANCOUVER -- Two men accused of kidnapping a Vancouver man at gunpoint Sunday then beating him, robbing him and leaving him tied naked to a tree, pleaded not guilty in a Skamania County court Thursday.
Investigators believe Marcus Bedell, 25, of Washougal and Charles Sample, 32, of Vancouver kidnapped the man and took him to the upper Washougal River area off North Fork Road.
According to court documents, Bedell and a woman picked up the victim, whom they reportedly knew, in Vancouver. They then picked up Sample, who was just getting out of the Clark County Jail.
Sample reportedly said the victim had stolen his truck and his dog.
The documents say Sample and Bedell planned to use a mob-style scare tactic to get information.
The men drove the victim to Skamania County where he said they forced him from the car made him dig a grave. They then beat him, took his clothes and duct taped him to a tree before he was found.
Sample and Bedell are being held in the Skamania County Jail. They are scheduled to return to court on Sept. 12.
