CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. -- State police have arrested a Southern Oregon man after a shooting in a motel parking lot that left a man in critical condition.

Sgt. Jeff Fitzgerald says two troopers were in Cave Junction on an unrelated matter Monday night when they got word of the shooting in the parking lot of the Junction Inn.

They found 58-year-old Ronald Dale Fehlhaber of the Illinois Valley and arrested him. He was held on charges of attempted murder, assault, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Police say 32-year-old Immanuel Angel Day of the Illinois Valley, an acquaintance of Fehlhaber's, was shot once in the chest with a 9 mm pistol. He was taken by Mercy Flights to the hospital in Grants Pass.
