EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Eugene police say a 4-month-old boy died last fall after sustaining a brain injury.

Police generally disclose basic information to the public after a suspected homicide, but investigators kept the infant's death quiet for months until The Register-Guard newspaper inquired about an unexplained crime listed on an annual report.

Detective Ted Williams says the infant sustained brain trauma consistent with having been violently shaken.

The baby lived with his mother and the woman's live-in boyfriend. Their names have not been released.

No arrests have been made in the case, which remains under review.
