HILLSBORO -- Police will increase patrols around Brown Middle School at 1505 SW Cornelius Pass Road after reports Thursday of a strange man who approached two students.

The students were walking home when they were stopped by the man on Southwest Jay Street across from campus, said Lt. Mike Rouches of Hillsboro police.

He confirmed the account of a KGWviewer who said the man had an unspecified and strong accent. A parent driving by saw the incident and pulled over. The man got into his car and sped off.

The incident took place across the street from the school in unincorporated Washington County and the sheriff's office was handling the investigation, Rouches said.

The school, however, is in Hillsboro and police were providing the extra patrols.
