FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- A 13-year-old child was struck by a school bus while crossing a Forest Grove street, police said.

Just after 8:30 a.m. a driver for Mid-Columbia Bus Company turned onto Pacific Avenue from Mountain View Lane and struck the child, who was in a crosswalk, according to Captain Mike Herb of the Forest Grove Police Department.

The bus driver did not see the child until the moment of impact, Herb said. The bus driver immediately stopped the bus and rendered aid.

The child was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital without life-threatening injuries.

The bus driver was very shaken from the incident but fully cooperative with authorities and not injured, Herb said. The driver was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

There were 20 children on the bus, but no other injuries were reported.
