PORTLAND -- Driving around downtown Portland this week will be a bit more challenging, after several roads were closed for TriMet Portland-Milwaukie light rail work beginning Monday morning.

Crews will be putting in huge girders, causing closures around the South Waterfront for a week.

The northbound Interstate 5 exit to Naito Parkway will be shut down from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Drivers should take the Macadam Avenue or I-405 exits.

Work on Southwest Lincoln Street will limit traffic for a month. The street will be open to local access only from Southwest 1st Avenue to Southwest 4th Avenue until November 2.

Interstate 405 exit 1B, to Southwest 4th Avenue, will be closed October 18 and 19.

The impacted Portland Streetcar stops will be serviced by shuttle buses.

The new light rail line is expected to open in 2015.
