PORTLAND -- The suspect in a Northeast Portland bank robbery and carjacking was still on the loose Monday afternoon, and police said he left a suspicious item behind at the bank.

The robbery was reported just before 4 p.m. at the Key Bank in the 1200 block of NE 102nd Avenue, Portland police dispatchers said.

A man described as overweight and 50 to 60 years old walked into the bank armed with a handgun and left with an undisclosed amount of money, according to Portland Police Lt. Robert King.

Outside the bank, the man reportedly carjacked a white 1997 Toyota 4Runner, with Oregon license plate number 110 CYU.

Sounds like a woman and her child were told to get out of the car, King said. Thankfully, nobody was injured.

King said police then learned that the suspect had left suspicious device inside the bank before he left.

A bomb squad was called in to investigate the device. The area around the bank was closed off during the investigation.

Anyone who see the suspect or the vehicle was asked to immediately call 911.
