PORTLAND -- Police officers dispatched to Sandy Boulevard and 119th Avenue late Wednesday night found a 19-year-old lying in the street with a gunshot wound.
Vinesh Ram Prasad, of North Portland, was declared dead shortly after medical crews arrived, according to Lt. Robert King. The shooting was reported about 11:45 p.m.
The Police Bureau sent homicide, forensic and gang investigators to the scene. A medical examiner confirmed Thursday that Prasad had died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police said they believe the shooting may be gang-related.

They were specifically interested in anyone with information about Prasad's activities in the 48 hours prior to his death.

One eastbound lane of Sandy Boulevard from 118th to 121st was closed until 8 a.m. Thursday.
