LONGVIEW, Wash. Longview residents will now be able to vote on the city s red light camera program.
But the vote in November will only be an advisory. That means, even if the majority of voters disapproves of the red light cameras, they won t necessarily go away that final decision would be up to the city.
Wednesday morning, the Longview City Council ruled that the issue is not legally subject to the initiative process. But council members said they still want to know what residents think.
Joshua Sutinen, the main organizer of the petition said he s frustrated and feels betrayed.
I've worked four or five months on this and to see all my work just thrown in the gutter... the votes will just be cast aside like we don't even matter, Sutinen said.
One of the supporters of the petition who attended Wednesday s meeting accused the council as being unconstitutional.
