PORTLAND The six monkeys that died while in quarantine at the Oregon Zoo in May were found dead inside plastic coolers, according to a Willamette Week report.

The report said zoo documents showed that nine cotton-top tamarin monkeys had been traveling for at least 50 hours in a van before arriving at the zoo.

Six of them died two days later in quarantine at the zoo s veterinary center, while in plastic coolers with holes.

The report also said the zoo s curator of primates was accused of neglecting to help the three surviving monkeys.

The surviving monkeys, including a seven-week-old baby, remain under the zoo s care.
