PORTLAND -- Thanks to heavy rain over the weekend, this March is now the third-wettest on record at Portland International Airport, with more than 7 inches overall.

This month has seen the most rainfall at the airport since December of 2012.

The record for rainfall in March is 7.89 inches, set just two years ago during the wet spring of 2012. Normal march rainfall at PDX is about 3.68 inches.

Friday's rainfall also broke the daily record, with 1.69 inches falling throughout the day.

The workweek then started off dry, but scattered showers will greet the first days of April and its first weekend should see plenty of rain, said KGW meteorologist Nick Allard.

Despite all the recent rain, area rivers are expected to stay below flood stage.
