PORTLAND -- An Oregon company is helping searchers look for the missing Malaysia Airlines jet.
Search crews from Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, Philippines, Japan, South Korea and India are using long-range thermal images made by Oregon-based FLIR.
They've been equipped with the technology for some time. FLIR sensors can detect things we can't see with our own eyes using temperature differences.
It can see all day and all night. It can allow you to do search operations 24-hours a day, said Robert Kubis, FLIR product manager.
Searchers can also use a high definition color camera to zoom in on objects. When using this technology, investigators can cover a lot of ground.
Hopefully they'll be successful and hopefully our tools are helping them do their job, said Kubis.
