VANCOUVER -- Police shot a man in downtown Vancouver early Thursday morning after responding to reports of a man shot in the foot.
The incident at 6th and Main unfolded about 1 a.m., when officers were dispatched to a report of a man shot in the foot after a dispute.
Officers arrived and encountered a second man, who had a gun. He was shot by officers. Both men were expected to survive their wounds.
Witness Marcus Griffith told KGW he was looking out his bedroom window about 1 a.m. and noticed police with someone in custody. About 1:20, he heard gunfire and called 911. Officers ordered passersby to lie on the ground.
He then saw a man on the ground between 6th and 7th on with officers pointing weapons at him. He appeared to have a gunshot wound to his side, Griffith said.
He commended responding officers for defusing the situation and protecting innocent citizens.
