PORTLAND -- After two weeks of storms, Portland-area rivers and streams are running high, fast and cold, and they re filled with debris.

The combination has been dangerous, plunging four men into local waterways over the past few days and claiming one man s life.

Multnomah County River Patrol deputies warned Monday that the water will remain dangerous from now through spring.

Lt. Travis Gullberg said people using local waterways should be on the lookout for debris, should always wear life jackets and should not boat alone.

The reality is, it s quick and you need to get out of the water as quickly as possible, Gullberg said. So obviously partnering up so you can be around other people is the best idea.
