PORTLAND -- A Portland man was arrested after what police called a bias-based attack on a man in the Lloyd District Wednesday evening.
An officer came upon two men fighting at Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Halsey Street just before 7 p.m., said portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson.
Additional officers were called to the scene, where witnesses said 37-year-old Frederick Edward Miller had yelled racial slurs as he walked past 32-year-old Angelo Finzo.
Finzo then responded verbally to Miller and Miller violently attacked him and assaulted him, Simpson said.
Miller also reportedly punched a woman who tried to break up the fight.
As Miller was being taken into custody, he continued to yell racial slurs at Finzo, Simpson said. Miller was jailed on felony assault and intimidation charges.
Finzo was taken to a Portland hospital for injuries he suffered in the attack. The female victim was treated at the scene.
