GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. Despite a spat of snowy conditions in the Portland Metro area, the south valley and the coast this December, very little snow accumulated where people want it the most: Mt. Hood.

At Valian's Ski Shop they're ready for the business that will come with more snow. With 47 years in business, Bud Valian has learned to be patient.

It is what it is, Valian said. There s no sense getting worried and excited with sleepless nights and all that stuff. It doesn t help you any. It doesn t make the snow come.

Skibowl plans to open its terrain park and ski school at the base of the slope in mid-month but there s not enough snow to open the mountain.

At Timberline conditions are a little better. There are a few inches of new snow but it's not much more than a two foot base.

On Friday, Mount Hood Meadows had three new inches of snow on top of a two foot base and night skiing started Friday night.

All the cold weather Oregon experienced in early December didn't come with a big dumping of powder on Mt. Hood.

The all-important Christmas break is coming up and the town of Government Camp was pretty quiet on Friday Dec. 13.

One place that is busy is the Hoodland Medical Clinic. The doctors there said they have been fixing sprains and broken bones. They said when there s very little snow ice and obstacles can cause trouble, so be careful.
