PORTLAND -- The Trailblazers and McDonald's have announced a new promotion that offers Moda Center fans a free Sausage McMuffin with Egg when the team scores 100 points or more.

The promotion replaces one pulled by Taco Bell, a free chalupa for a 100-point game. It takes effect Nov. 2 during the season opener against the Spurs.

This is one of the most popular in-arena promotions in sports. The crowd noise noticeably escalates as the Trail Blazers approach 100 points. The extra energy level contributes to our home court advantage, Chris McGowan, President & CEO of the Trail Blazers said in a prepared statement.

We are grateful that McDonald s has stepped up to the plate and enabled us to continue the 100-point promotion for the next five seasons, he said.

McGowan hopes that fans will shout MICK-E-DEES! repeatedly as the team nears 100 points. The arena sound system and signage will encourage the fans, he said.

For the Taco Bell promotion, fans yelled CHA-LU-PA!

The 450-calorie breakfast sandwich has 21 grams of protein, 27 grams of fat, 890 milligrams of salt, 285 milligrams of cholesterol and 32 grams of carbs, according to the company website. Facebook friends listed many comments, quickly, when this story was posted. The story was also widely shared via Facebook.

While there was a sprinkling of comments about liking the promotion, many wished for a more nutritious offering, especially after the arena was named after a health-care firm.
