HILLSBORO, Ore. The Oregon International Air Show saw a 15 percent drop in attendance this year, due in part to federal budget cuts known as sequestration.
The three-day-long event featured acrobatic plane shows, aircraft displays and fireworks. The show attracted 60,000 spectators, down from approximately 70,000 people last year.
The effects of sequestration meant the show didn t have the military presence that draws large crowds, said spokesman Steve Callaway. Most notably, the Blue Angels flying acrobatic team was absent from this year s event.
Overall, knowing that our numbers would probably be down we're pleased with the strong support for the OIAS, Callaway said.
The Oregon airshow fared better than many others around the country, some of which have been canceled or seen up to 40 percent fewer spectators.
