ORCHARDS, Wash. -- A dog stranded on the roof of an Orchards-area home was rescued by an animal control officer Monday morning.

As first reported in The Columbian, the homeowner was backing out of his driveway when he heard his own dog growling in his backseat. He looked up to see another dog on his roof.

He called 911 and an animal control officer responded, patiently offering up hot dog pieces and trying not to scare the 15-lb. Chihuahua mix, the paper reported.

The man told The Columbian as far as he could tell he must have left the garage door open and the dog went up the stairs to a balcony and then onto the roof.

The dog was taken to the Humane Society of Southwest Washington.
