PORTLAND A Fairview woman was sentenced to 20 years in prison for manslaughter Friday afternoon in the death of a 10-year-old girl.

Chandra Ilene Rose was accused of six counts of first-degree felony mistreatment, coercion and recklessly endangering the life of another.

Miranda Crockett died at the Kings Garden Apartments in November. Prosecutors told the judge in court Friday that Crockett died in an ice bath and was made to sleep in a locked bathroom.

Rose, who is the girlfriend of Crockett s father, Daniel Crockett, pleaded guilty to coercion and manslaughter after waiving her right to a jury trial.

Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney John Cassalino pointed out how Miranda Crockett's life changed when Rose moved in with them.

Miss Rose tied her up, and Miss Rose made Miranda sleep in a storage box, he said. Ultimately, Miss Rose caused Miranda to drown in the bathtub.

Daniel Crockett addressed the courtroom, pleading for leniency in her sentencing.

What happened that morning was extraordinarily out of character for the woman I ve known for nearly half my life, he said. He also pointed out that Rose performed CPR on the 10-year-old.

I wonder what sort of diety would not only make the most horrifying thing I could imagine come true, but then to up the ante by making the love of my life responsible for it also, he said.
