PORTLAND Officers arrested a man during a protest at Walmart Thursday after they said he created a disturbance in the store.

Protesters from the Occupy Portland movement gathered outside the Walmart at Southeast 82nd Avenue and Southeast Holgate Boulevard Thursday night leading up to the Black Friday shopping rush.

Officers arrested 33-year-old Justin Kerston of Portland for criminal trespass and disorderly conduct after they said he refused to leave the store and screamed at employees and police, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau.

Protesters continued to gather Friday morning outside the Walmart with more than 200 people showing up to support workers.

You can t build an economy on low-wage jobs and no benefits. We need a middle class if we are going to have a decent economy and a decent city and that s not what Walmart is providing, a protester told KGW outside the retail giant Friday morning.

Police were continuing to monitor the protest and booked Kerston in the Multnomah County Jail.
