PORTLAND - TriMet said last year it was going to crack down on fare cheats and so far the number of tickets is up dramatically.

Fare enforces have been busy writing $175 tickets to riderswho didn't pay. In December of 2010 -- before the crackdown, inspectors gave out 1,100 warnings and wrote just 137 tickets.

InDecember, 2011, after hiring more fare enforcers TriMet gave out about ten times as many tickets -- and fewer warnings.
