SEATTLE -- Avalanche danger is making travel difficult through Snoqualmie and Stevens passes -- the two main east-west highway routes through the Washington Cascades.

After closures Tuesday evening, the state Transportation Department reopened Interstate 90 through Snoqualmie Pass early Wednesday morning and reopened Highway 2 across Stevens Pass later in the morning.

Snoqualmie Pass was closed again briefly late Wednesday night for more avalanche control work. Snoqualmie Pass re-opened early Thursday morning.

Washington Department of Transportation officials say 80 inches of snow has fallen in just the past week and a half. Road crews have been working overtime to keep the snow clear.
