PORTLAND -- A flood warning for the Columbia River continued to be in effect as water levels hit a foot over flood stage Tuesday.

The river was at 17.2 feet with minor flooding already occurring along the banks. National Weather Service forecasts said it would continue to rise through the weekend along with pending tides and releases from Bonneville dam.

Meanwhile, a large portion of Portland s popular Vera Katz Eastbank Esplanade was closed Tuesday, due to rising water in the Willamette River. Details:Esplanade flooded

The waters of the Columbia could get up to 18 feet and flooding of undiked lowland, pasture and farmland was predicted for Sauvie Island downstream.

Chinook Landing Marine Park's launch area was also closed Tuesday as one-third of its parking lot was flooded.
