HILLSBORO, Ore. The annual SOLV Spring Beach Cleanup hits the Oregon Coast Saturday, and volunteers from Brookings to Astoria will be cleaning up the coastline.

Litter travels with the wind, ocean currents, and stormwater, and every year volunteers find a wide assortment of forgotten items tucked into every corner of Oregons beaches, said Program Coordinator Rachel Pecore.

During last year s Spring Beach Cleanup, nearly 4,500 volunteers removed more than 70,500 lbs of trash from the coast.

Trash on our beaches is not a problem unique to Oregon, Executive Director Melisa McDonald said. But what is unique about Oregon is that for the last 27 years every spring and fall, Oregonians turn out to pick that trash up and protect the health of our oceans, wildlife, and coastal economies.

SOLV is an Oregon nonprofit organization that brings volunteers together to improve the environment.
