PORTLAND -- After four cougar sightings in Portland and Gresham earlier in the week, Portland police said there were three more sightings early Friday morning.

Officers first responded at about 1:30 a.m. to the report of a cougar near Northeast 117th Avenue and Siskiyou Street, said Portland police Sgt. Greg Stewart.

The just after 4 a.m., someone reported seeing a cougar just off the Gateway Bike Path at Interstate 205 northbound, Stewart said.

The third sighting, in the area of Northeast 115th Avenue and Siskiyou Street, was reported at about 5:30 a.m.

Officers responded to each report and searched the areas, but did not find any cougars. Stewart said Portland police have notified the Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

After one of the sightings earlier this week, a woman's pet cat died. Police said it was likely killed by a cougar.

Three cougar sightings were also reported in Hillsboro last week.
