PORTLAND Police arrested a man who was allegedly strangling and pointing a gun at his mother Wednesday morning in Southeast Portland.
Around 7:25 a.m., police surrounded a home in the 2100 block of Southeast 76th Avenue after learning 26-year-old Daniel Ryan Kelly King was drunk and attacking this 63-year-old mom, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.
King reportedly has a history of heroin abuse and was acting erratically.
King s mother got out of the home and told officers about the attack. Eventually, King came out of the home unarmed, but would not cooperate with police and he tried to go back inside. Police sicked their K-9 Justus on King to pin him down until officers could take him into custody, Simpson said.
King was treated for a minor dog bite at the scene. Officers searched the home and found a shotgun and two handguns along with numerous rounds of ammunition.
King was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, strangulation, menacing and pointing a firearm at another person.
