DENVER, Colo. Oregon proved that the state knows how to brew beer during last weekend s Great American Beer Fest in Denver, Colo. Breweries from around the state claimed 25 medals during the 2013 competition.
The event pitted more than 600 of the country s best brews against each other on Oct. 10 - 12 in Denver. Tickets to the competition sold out within 20 minutes, according to festival reports.
While big names like Deschutes Brewery and Ninkasi Brewing Co. won awards, Oregon s smaller craft brewers took some of the biggest prizes.
Bend Brewing Co. was one of the top Oregon winners, with two gold medals for its Ching Ching sour ale and Lovely aged beer, and a bronze for its Black Diamond dark lager.
Eastern Oregon s Baker City Brewing Co. also took three medals for its beers, including a gold for its Shredders Wheat.' The brewery also won 'Very Small Brewing Company and Very Small Brewing Company Brewer of the Year.'
Portland s Old Town Brewing Co. took advantage of the fall s fresh-hop season, winning the Fresh Hop Ale award with its Cent s and Censability.

Oregon also proved it's on top of the gluten-free beer trend. Portland s Harvester Brewing took first place in that category with the Harvester IPA No. 1. Deschutes Brewery placed second.
