SCAPPOOSE, Ore. Two attempted burglary crashed into a Scappoose High School athletic field after a high-speed chase Friday night, police said.
Around 10:30 p.m., a neighbor watched as two men tried to break into the garage of a home at 59440 Alderwood Drive in Saint Helens, Ore., said Chief Terry Moss with the St. Helens Police Department.
The suspects left the home in a red Subaru, which officers spotted on North Vernonia Road. When police tried to stop the car, the driver gassed it and took off at speeds close to 100 mph, Moss said.
After winding through some Scappoose neighborhoods, the car crashed into the fields at the high school.
The driver, 27-year-old Randy Weston Parker of Seattle (pictured left), took off running but was taken down by a police dog. The passenger, 43-year-old Tomas Scott Schlickeiser of Portland (pictured right), was arrested a short distance away, Moss said.
The car turned out to be stolen from Seattle on Wednesday.
Parker and Schlickeiser were booked in the Columbia County Jail and charged with crimes including attempted burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.
