OXNARD, Calif. A Vancouver man saved a truck driver from a fiery crash in California Saturday.

Bob Michels was on vacation and heading to Disneyland with his family when the semi-truck in front of them veered off the freeway, rolled down an embankment and burst into flames.

Michels didn't flinch. He pulled over, got out, jumped a guardrail and wrenched the woman out of the burning vehicle.

I knew I had to stop and do something, Michels said.

Bob Michels wife, Aimee, caught some of the rescue on video.

I saw him leaning in the driver's side and trying to get her to come out, Aimee Michels said. And as he was doing that, I could see the flames starting to come up in the back of the cab. So that's when I kind of freaked out and started screaming.

The fire destroyed several nearby cars but the truck driver was in good condition.

The good deed didn t stop the Michels family from their vacation. They went on to Disneyland and theme park even named him honorary citizen of the day.
