A Kansas City woman filed a police report accusing a Portland Timbers player of rape early Sunday. The Timbers played a match against Kansas City on Saturday.

Kansas City police detained and questioned the player, who was later released.

Via a Twitter direct message with Kansas City's NBC news station KSHB, police chief Darryl Forte wrote no charges (had been) filed and could not comment further because the alleged incident is still under investigation.

Kansas City police indicated the name of the player would not be publicly released unless the player was charged with a crime.

In response to a report by a Portland TV station on Monday that a Timbers player had been arrested, the Portland Timbers issued this statement:

There are no criminal charges filed against any of our players. The club will not be commenting further at this time.
