SALEM, Ore. -- The head boys' basketball coach at West Salem High School has been fired, despite his winning record.

Coach Kevin Goin led the team to a 23-and-3 record, its best finish in years. But earlier this week , the school's principal got rid of him.

The principal said he saw some things happening that he didn't feel were right.

Meantime, Coach Goin said he stands by his coaching style and can think of only one reason he was let go.

I'm loud and I yell, which is what I do as a coach and a teacher, he said. I'm a loud person, I grew up around teachers. Everyone who knows me knows it's my personality.

Supporters of the coach said he's a great leader who develops character.

He will remain at the school as a science teacher, he just will no longer also work as a coach.
