SILVERTON, Ore. -- A group of high school students from Silverton High School boarded a plane at the Portland International Airport Wednesday, bound for the presidential inauguration in Washington D.C.

After studying American history for several months, the 22 students, their teacher and two chaperons, got the news that they were granted tickets to attend President Obama s big event.

The year earlier, they wrote to Oregon Senator Ron Wyden and asked him for the tickets.

The tickets were free, but the students worked to pay for their travel expenses. They said it will all be worth it when they get to see history first-hand on Jan 21st.
