SALEM -- A two-alarm fire at a Salem home sent two firefighters and a bystander to the hospital.

The firefighters were injured while battling the blaze, which broke out at around 2 p.m. in the home on Liberty &Bates Roads. The bystander was near the door when crews arrived, and that person is believed to have suffered smoke inhalation. The firefighters' conditions are unknown.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The inside of the home was filled with items that made the firefighting efforts more difficult. Firefighters expected to be at the home for several hours, and getting everything out of the home will be a nearly impossible task , said Salem Fire Battalion Chief Frank Stephenson.
