After Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday comes Giving Tuesday, a day to give to others.
A coalition of about 1,400 charities hope people will give more of themselves on Giving Tuesday, through volunteering, donating or raising awareness about causes that resonate with them.
Then people are asked to share the good deed on social media, to encourage further action from others.
Organizer Aaron Sherinian said the holiday is designed to shift the focus of the season.
This is about changing the conversation around the holiday shopping season so that it's about the giving season, he said.
The social media aspect of the campaign was designed to attract younger donors. The average age of the current American donor is 65.
