VERNONIA, Ore -- Two people, including a 12-year-old, were seriously injured after a fire broke out at a home in Vernonia. Neighbor Lisa Hood was watching from next door.

Ihad my husband out there with a garden hose, said Hood. The wind was coming our way.

The blaze broke out mid afternoon Friday on Bridge Street. It is believed to have started in a one car garage, but the fire quickly jumped to the nearby house. Access to the home was limited.

The house is behind another house, said Deputy Chief Dean Smith. The only access was a driveway and hillside.

By the time firefighters got to the home it was fully engulfed. Ammo was going off in the blaze.

The guys are really good at sticking to their jobs and knowing what's going on, said Smith. Our first care was to get patients loaded and out of the way.

Two people, a 64-year-old and a 12-year-old, were injured in the blaze. Their relationship and extent of their injuries is unclear. They were rushed to a burn center in Portland.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
