PORTLAND -- The Timbers have won two of their last three games and have now added a new player to the mix, who should provide some help on defense and add some veteran leadership.

He is 28-year old Kosuke Kimura from the Colorado Rapids. The Timbers picked up the defender in exchange for allocation money and an international slot throught the end of the year.

Kimura was a key part of Colorado's MLS Championship team in 2010. Kimura has appeared in 117 matches for Colorado netting four goals and 8 assists.

We're happy to have him, said Timbers Head Coach John Spencer, I think he brings tremendous experience, tremendous athlete, great talker. He played on a Championship winning team, which is very difficult to get players.

Kimura was equally excited to join the Timbers and play in the Rose City.

I'm really excited to be here, said Kimura, I hear so much good about the Timbers, all the fans, all the people that live here, all the players and the coaching staff.

The Timbers play this Saturday night in Utah agains Real Salt Lake. Spencer says that Kimura will play.

The good thing about Kos, said Spencer, is he's a natural right back and he'll have no problem playing there. He's a great addition to the group.

Kimura is more than ready,

I can't wait to put on the green jersey, or red to play for this team, he said. I'll do anything, anything, i can to bring a Championship here.
