VANCOUVER, Wash. A police chase ended at gunpoint on a North Portland street after a man allegedly robbed a Hazel Dell bank, carjacked a vehicle and sped through neighborhoods Wednesday.

The bank robbery occurred at the Riverview Savings Bank, at 1220 NE 88th Street just before 3 p.m.

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and ran into the bank parking lot.

Then, a dye pack exploded and the suspect dropped the money bag and fled in a black Toyota Sequoia.

Responding officers spotted the SUVand chased the suspect through Hazel Dell, then lost him. Police also believe he unsuccessfully tried to carjack a vehicle at the Arco gas station at 3817 Main Street during his escape.

A short time later, police said he carjacked a black Ford Focus in Vancouver. Officers spotted that car southbound on I-5 and followed it. They chased him for a time and then backed off as he raced through neighborhoods in the St. John's area.

Officers eventually tracked the car to a North Portland neighborhood and boxed it in his near the intersection of Kellogg and Burlington. That s when the driver got out and ran and reportedly tried to carjack a family minivan before officers swarmed in, with guns drawn, and captured him.

Pretty scary for the kids, said attempted carjack victim Felipe Ramirez. I have four kids in the van so I was scared for them.

No one was injured.

The suspect was later identified as Brent Woodall of Salmon Creek, Wash. Police said he turned 29 the day of the arrest. According to a report in The Columbian, Woodall is a personal trainer and may have been struggling financially. The mortgage for his 3,550-square-foot home is underwater and had been on the market for a short sale for about a year but did not sell.

What we have here is several crime scenes spread over several jurisdictions and two state lines, said Sgt. Fred Neiman of the Clark County Sheriff's Office. It'll take some time to unwind this whole thing.

Investigators said they found evidence linking Woodall to the bank robbery in the stolen car. They were also looking into whether he may have been involved in a similar bank robbery in Vancouver.
