PORTLAND – A Warm Springs man was sent to prison Monday for assaulting his five-week-old son.
U. S. District Judge Ancer L. Haggerty sentenced Monty Tewee, 21, to 18 months in prison after Tewee pled guilty to assault charges.
On the night of March 6, 2010, Tewee squeezed his baby’s rib cage with traumatic force, breaking eight of the infant’s ribs in 10 places and lacerating his liver. The infant was airlifted to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend and then on to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland for specialized trauma care.
The boy has since recovered and is now under the jurisdiction of Warm Springs Children’s Protective Services.
Once he’s released from prison, Tewee will have to spend three years on supervised release and participate in anger management counseling and parenting classes.
