SPRINGFIELD -- Legendary Blazers announcer Bill Schonely and Nike chairman Phil Knight have been honored with awards handed out by the the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Schonely was named recipient of the 2012 Curt Gowdy Award.

The Blazers created a web page congratulating the longtime announcer. He called the first game for the franchise, a 1970 pre-season game in Longview, Wash., through the 1998 playoffs.

Knight was recognized by a committee that looks at achievement in all facets of basketball. He was nominated by the Contributor Direct Election Committee.
