PORTLAND Organizers said 30,500 participants signed up for Portland s 33rd Shamrock Run Sunday.

The run included five different races, starting with a kids 1K Leprechaun Lap at 7:45 a.m. An 8K race followed that at 8:05. The 15K challenge began at 8:35 and the 5K run started at 8:55.

The Shamrock Stride for walkers only began at 9:00. All races started at the corner of SW Naito Parkway and SW Pine Street.

The Burnside Bridge was closed to motor vehicles from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. But bridge sidewalks remained open to bicyclists and pedestrians throughout the event. During the bridge closure, TriMet bus lines 12, 19 and 20 used the Steel Bridge.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Doernbecher Children's Hospital Foundation. Race organizers said they were able to raise $25,000 in 90 minutes. The event was sold out.

The Shamrock run is the second-largest running event in Portland, after the Komen Race for the Cure.
